The Aquatarium is delighted to announce the recent birth of three male otter pups to first-time mother Mable, marking a heartwarming addition to the facility’s animal family. Born over the course of March 8 and 9, the pups have spent their first weeks nestled safely in their den, where Mable has proven to be an attentive and nurturing parent. She continues to devote her time to nursing, grooming, and keeping her pups warm, raising what staff describe as “three very healthy boys.”

Animal care staff are closely monitoring the pups’ development through daily wellness checks. These include visual assessments, weight tracking, and gentle handling to help acclimate the young otters to human interaction. During these brief check-ins, Mable is calmly separated from her pups and has shown a relaxed and curious demeanor throughout the process. Veterinary professionals have already conducted examinations and report that all three pups are in excellent health. Now just over one month old, the pups are reaching exciting developmental milestones. Their eyes are beginning to open, and they are growing more mobile each day. In the coming weeks, staff anticipate the pups will begin exploring beyond the den and, eventually, take their first swims under Mable’s guidance.

The Aquatarium team is eager to introduce these adorable new pups to our members and the public, just not quite yet! Stay tuned and keep an eye on our website for exciting Pup Updates coming soon. The Aquatarium extends its sincere thanks to the team at Brockville Animal Hospital for their continued expertise, support, and compassionate care of the facility’s animals.
